One of my favorite places to eat in Las Vegas as a child was the Alpine Village. We only went there on special occasions like a birthday, but I always knew what I was going to order Sauerbraten...mmmmmmmmmmmmm...... Not only was it very good food, but it was part of our Swiss Heritage, and it felt a little bit like we belonged there. Being pregnant, and remembering this yummy dish, I searched the internet for a good recipe. I had to marinate for two days, and then bake the roast, and make the sweet and sour sauce on top. Here is a picture.
So after this wonderful yummy dinner I made, that I was the only one that ate by the way, I got the girls up to the bathroom for a bath. I came down to clean up a bit before they were ready to get out. I was at the sink when I heard a weird noise from the dining room, I look over, and lo and behold there is Rose buck naked shaking salt all over the table, and the wonderful leftovers!
Well, obviously I had to record the moment so that when her boyfriends come over I have a wonderful picture to show them. Oh this kid is going to kill me.

I loved the Alpine Village, too! But for me, it was all about the SOUP and the pumpernickle bread! YUMMO
Yum! Good for you for making a special dinner for yourself.
haha. that sounds just like Rose. Why is it that i have never experienced this Alpine Villiage? How you coming on names for the little man?
Looks way yummy! sorry about the leftovers...silly Rose:)
What's sauerbraten?
I really want to see that picture of Rose! I think it's kind of funny that you loved sauerbraten as a kid. I don't think of it as a "kid" dish & was always a little unsure of it when I was a kid. My favorite was the little tray of different kinds of bread and the giant baked potatoes! And of course, watching the little people dance across the ceiling on their minature ski lifts and drinking cold water out of a freezing cold pewter cup.
These kids of ours definitely keep life interesting!
I hope the dinner you made was yummy. It does look good, although I've never had Sauerbraten before. I liked liver as a kid, but would never admit it to my friends. Liver was NOT to be liked by anyone!
hey --- just an FYI for all of us 'old time' Vegas types - I found the recipe for Alpine Village Soup on line, but it is to serve 50 people.... hmmm I love that soup and do you remember the cottage cheese seasoning? My dad makes that stuff and it is so good!
What fond memories we all have surrounding food...it really is an important part of life whether we want it to be or not! Their bread and soup are so delicious....so sad they are no longer....we will have to see about having an Alpine Village dinner next time I am at home!!!! (home cooked of course) Katie...we have a name. Joseph Michael Nicholson.
